• Cox named lone finalist in Chico ISD's superintendent search (wcmessenger.com) — Chico ISD has named hometown educator Breann Cox as the lone finalist to become the district’s next superintendent, with a final board vote expected May 28. A 2004 Chico High graduate and current principal, Cox says her top priority will be boosting morale and reshaping Chico ISD’s culture to highlight the district’s strengths and potential.
   

• Akers to close career with state jump (wcmessenger.com) — Chico senior high jumper Devin Akers is wrapping up his Dragon career on a big stage after earning a wild card berth to the 2A state meet in Austin. Following a personal-best 6-04 at regionals, he’s aiming for a medal finish and hoping a strong performance brings college opportunities.
