Meet Becky Sill, Owner and stylist at Fantastic Sam’s Cuts & Color in League City and Galveston. In this week’s episode, Becky discusses her early memories of going with her grandmother to a one-chair salon, falling in love with hair and having the dream of one day owning a salon of her own. Becky also talks about owning both salons with her Husband, how the key part of her business is focusing on teamwork and how she gives back to the community by volunteering to provide free haircuts for patients and their families at Shriners Hospital in Galveston.
Becky and her husband own two Fantastic Sam’s locations, one in League City in front of Clear Falls High School and one in Galveston off of 61st street in the Bank of America shopping center.

She jumped into the hair care industry from a memory story. She started going to beauty school in high school and she wasn’t to sue which direction she wanted to go in life. But the opportunity came up to take these classes in high school and she jumped at the idea. She had fond memories of going to the beauty shop with her grandmother at a one chair salon out in the country. When she went off to college, she fermented the idea of owning her own salon.
If you have a dream, it is never too late to make it happen, Becky says.
Some of the community involvement that she does that ties into the power of a good haircut by giving free haircuts to the patients of Shriners Hospital on the island. It is amazing what it does for them, she believes it helps with the healing process, states Becky. She also says that it is a gift to be able to offer that to them to make a difference and see their genuine smiles.
Becky does some other volunteer work with families that have been hit with hard times and are looking for work. The nonprofit gives them a hand up not a hand up, it is preparing them to get back into the position to support their families.
One of the questions here was, how does Fantastic Sam’s attract talented people? Becky said she feels she brings added value and understanding to the salon along with the business side of it.
At Fantastic Sam’s they include a shampoo with every cut, it is a treat not an add on. Becky’s goal is to be the premier salon in the community where people want to go. They really focus on teamwork and what makes them such a great environment is how well they all work together.
To wrap up, Becky said she asks herself 3 questions every day:
- What can I learn from this situation
- What can I do to be better
- Am I all in?
