Clear Lake Residents Oppose Homeless Shelter

Shelter would be near two elementary schools and a suburban neighborhood if the site is permitted by the City of Houston.

CLEAR LAKE, TX — Residents in Clear Lake are concerned about the location of a proposed homeless shelter in their community that would invite potentially dangerous people near two elementary schools, and a suburban neighborhood.

Jai LaBrie has been trying to bring a shelter to the Clear Lake area that would service the homeless population for more than two years, and it appears that a the site of a former restaurant may be it at El Camino Real and bay Area Blvd, if she an obtain the permits. Still, neighbors are worried about what could happen as a result.

"It's too close to the elementary schools. It's too close to a neighborhood, and we have got to be really concerned about our children's safety," Jennifer Smith told KTRK.
