Father, Son Lose Their Home To Fire The Day After Moving In

HIGHLANDS, TX — A military veteran and his young son are homeless after a fire destroyed their home early Friday morning, juust one day after they moved in.

The fire erupted at about 2:30 a.m., in the 2200 block of Harris Street.

Joseph Deanda told investigators that he and his 18-month old son were sleeping on the sofa, when he heard a loud pop, KTRK reported.

Deanda said he got up to investigate and didn’t seen anything and went to lay back down, KPRC reported.

A few minutes later, the house that Deanda had just purchased was full of smoke, he said.

He grabbed his son and ran out the front door.

Deanda, who bought the home back in May, had just moved the furniture in and was spending his first night in the home when the fire erupted.

The Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
