Galveston Ball Media Program Provides Unique Opportunities to Students

Students get hands-on experiences with electronic media, social media and hone interviewing skills.

GALVESTON, TX -- Students at Galveston Ball High School are reaping the benefits of a comprehensive media program that not only teaches valuable skills, but allows students to have a little fun at the same time.

The media arts program, which has really gained popularity over the last couple of years, teaches students social media and digital media production, audio and video production and broadcasting on both TV and radio stations at the campus.

Early on, the focus was primarily on the video side of production, with students producing daily newscasts and more, complete with studio and set.

But it didn’t take long for interests to expand and shift more toward the audio side of media.

In fact, students now have a full-fledged radio studio and recently launched a 24/7 internet radio station called KTOR the Tornado.

Wh8ile students are able to learn a valuable skill and have fun, the experience also helps to foster an interest in the community, teaching them interview skills and providing opportunities to meet and speak with civic and community leaders on important topics.

"We can showcase and strut our stuff and flex our muscles and say we're up there with the big boys. Just to be able to offer something unique to our students," Ball High School Media Arts Coach Mike Dudas told KPRC.
