Galveston Considers Lowering Speed Limit Along Seawall
The vote, which is set for Thursday, will make the speed limit consistent along the seawall and help make the city more walkable, if passed

GALVESTON, TX — City leaders in Galveston are expected to vote to lower the posted speed limit on Seawall Blvd. to 35 miles per hour between 6th Street and 61st Street.
The vote, which on the Thursday city council agenda, would make the speed limits less confusing to tourists and would help make the city more pedestrian friendly if the measures passes.
Traffic volumes are often heavy along Seawall Blvd., particularly during the summer months as tourists flock to the beaches, and other tourist destinations such as Pleasure Pier and Murdochs.

According to the city council agenda, the ordinance is being proposed for purposes of safety and convenience, deeming it in the public interest, KTRK reported.
If the measure is approved, the city would immediately begin posting signs along the Seawall to warn of the change, which could take effect after Labor Day.
