Galveston PD Adding More Officers To Their Ranks
City of Galveston awards badges to 19 former cadets, the largest class in more than 20 years

GALVESTON, TX — The city of Galveston graduated its largest police academy class in more than 20 years, and presented badges to 19 new officers on Friday.
The former cadets spent six weeks of training, and learning various aspects of policing and many could begin riding patrol as soon as Saturday July 29.
“This addition to the department brings us to our highest staffing level since Hurricane Ike,” said Chief Rick Boyle. “This will provide our officers with the opportunity to spend more time being proactive, with more officers available to react throughout each shift.”

Over the last six weeks, cadets were academically trained in Policy and Procedure, Use of Force, Criminal Investigations, Community Outreach, and Family and Juvenile Crime. Outside the classroom, they trained in police driving, firearm proficiency, self-defense, building searches, and traffic stops.
Five of the officers came to Galveston with their state certification and will begin patrol as early as this Saturday.
The remaining 14 will now begin the police academy at the College of the Mainland and be officially sworn-in upon receiving their state certification.
