Galveston War Vet Who Played ‘Taps’ Each Night, Dies [VIDEO]

Korean War vet's moving tribute was played from the second floor balcony each night, will be deeply missed by community.

GALVESTON, TX -- A Korean War veteran who spent his last years playing “Taps” from his balcony on Galveston’s strand in honor of all veterans, played it for the final time on Monday night.

Guy Taylor, 84, who served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was credited with saving the lives of two fellow Marines during the Korean Conflict, died Tuesday.

Taylor, who moved to Galveston 22 years ago, became an evening fixture when at each sunset, he’d stand on his balcony and play “Taps,” which moved many to stop, listen, and pay tribute right along with him.

Former Galveston County Constable Clint Brown would often stop his patrol unit at the center of 21st Street and Post Office Street, and with lights flashing, stand and render a hand salute as Taylor played.

Before the last note was played, others would be there with Brown, standing in silent awe.

The Galveston community is hoping that someone will step in and begin playing “Taps” as Taylor did in honor of so many.
