Gusty Winds Leave 3,400 Houstonians In The Dark

High winds downed power lines in communities throughout the Houston area Thursday night.

HOUSTON, TX — The Houston area was greeted with cold temperatures on Friday, but it was the gusty winds that caused the most havoc in communities throughout the Houston area on Thursday night.

In some area, winds gusting as high as 50 miles per hour knocked out power, leaving thousands in the dark.

Crews from CenterPoint Energy were working throughout the overnight hours to restore power to about 3,400 residents in communities south of downtown.

In Missouri City, businesses were among those most affected with strip malls and gas stations left without power, KTRK reported.

In Clear Lake, patrons who were dining at restaurants on the Kemah Boardwalk were forced to evacuate when high winds downed power lines, and knocked out power to Landry’s Seafood and Lighthouse Buffet.

There were no injuries as a result.

Power was restored to all affected areas by 7 a.m. Friday.
