Helicopter Crash In Galveston Kills One, Injures Two
Helicopter was used to transport crews to and from offshore oil platforms in the Gulf of Mexico
GALVESTON, TX -- A helicopter used to ferry work crews to offshore oil rigs crashed off the coast of Galveston Monday night, killing one passenger and injuring two others.
The crash was reported to the U.S. Coast Guard just after 7 p.m., and happened about two miles off the coast of Jamaica Beach in Galveston.
Coast Guard officials said they lost communications with the helicopter while it was flying over West Bay.

The helicopter, which was based at Republic Helicopters in Santa Fe, Texas, had three people onboard when it crashed.
Officials said that two of the passengers were rescued and taken to the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston for treatment.

One of those rescued is believed to have been the pilot.
The body of the third passenger, was later recovered.
The identifies of the three victims have not yet been released.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
