First Wave Of Burn Victims Arrive in Galveston's Shriner's Hospital
Shriner's is preparing a triage team to go to Mexico as more patients are scheduled to arrive.

3rd Update Dec. 22 @ 8:45 a.m.: The first wave of children who were seriously injured in a massive fireworks blast earlier this week began arriving in Galveston on Wednesday.
An aircraft with a 13-year old boy and a 16-year-old boy, arrived in Galveston late Wednesday, while a 4-year-old girl was flown in Thursday.
As many as eight children will be receiving specialized treatment at Galveston's Shriner's Hospital Burn Treatment Center.

Roberto Lopez, the director of The Foundation of Michua and Moa, said they plan to send six to eight children who are victims of a fireworks explosion to Shriner's Hospital in Galveston for treatment.
Lopez added that they hope to raise the age limit from 18 to 22 for victims so that they can send more to Galveston for treatment.

In a statement released Wednesday, the hospital said they are ready to receive the children, and they are organizing a consulting team to head to Mexico to triage patients.
2nd Update 12:04 p.m.: Five children who were injured in an explosion at a Mexican fireworks market on Tuesday will be flown to Galveston's Shriner's Hospital for treatment, according to a Mexican foundation that helps burn victims.
Initially, several news services reported Tuesday night that at least three children who were injured in the blast will receive treatment at Shriners Hospitals for Children in Galveston, however, Emily Dressel, a spokeswoman for the hospital, said that there were no expectations that the facility would receive any patients from the explosion.
Since then, Roberto Lopez, a spokesman for the Michou y Mau Foundation in Mexico, indicagted that those talks are underway, and that at least five children will be transferred to Galveston as soon as they are stable enough to travel.
The children are two boys, ages 16 and 13; two girls, ages 13 and 14; and another child, whose age wasn’t disclosed.
1st Updated Story 10:22 a.m.: Three children who were injured in an explosion of a fireworks market in Mexico on Tuesday, are not expected to be treated at the Shriner's Hospital Burn Treatment Center in Galveston, as previously reported.
Officials at Shriner's Hospital said they don't have a reasonable expectation of receiving patients from thei accident.
However, Emily Dressel, a spokeswoman for Shriner's said that could change quickly if the hospital is notified and if or when the child's needs are reviewed.
Original Story: HOUSTON, TX -- Three children injured in an explosion at an San Pablito fireworks market on Tuesday will be treated for injuries at Galveston’s Shriner’s Hospital.
At least 31 people were killed and 72 people were being treated for injuries from Tuesday’s explosion, including for severe burns, in some cases over 90 percent of their bodies.
Ten children were among the hospitalized. Authorities have not yet said what may have caused the explosions which took place in Mexico State, which rings the capital.
