La Marque Officer Kills Sword-Bearing Man During Burglary

Gregory Ham, 62, who'd broken into his neighbors home and threatened his neighbor, cut a police officer and K9 before he was shot to death.

LA MARQUE, TX — A La Marque K-9 officer who responding to a burglary call late Sunday, shot and killed the burglary suspect after he allegedly cut him and his K9 partner with a sword.

Police were called to the 800 block of Retama shortly after 10 p.m. after a woman reported that her neighbor had broken into her home and was armed with a sword, and that the neighbor, identified as Greg Ham, had threatened her.

Police arrived and questioned the woman who said her neighbor had kicked in her front door, and forced her inside her bedroom, before running away.

La Marque Police Officer Jose Santos and his K9 partner responded to the area, and during a search, found Ham, 62, in a building near the apartment complex, KPRC reported.

Police said that Ham was armed with the sword, and allegedly swung the sword and the K9, and Santos cutting both, KHOU reported..

Santos then shot Ham, killing him, investigators said.

The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office and the Galveston County District Attorney are investigating, and the case will be presented to the grand jury for possible indictment.
