In May 2012, Cordray was interviewed by the Houston Chronicle about his latest album, "It Takes Everything,” and shared insight into his his early career, playing with Pastorius and Cochran, and playing acoustic versus electric guitar.

“My wife and kids, they all hear me play acoustic and they'd tell you that's the real me. They hear me in that rather than what I do behind the amps and all that, Cordray told the Chronicle. “I'm really in love with acoustics. It's my real voice really.”

In his later years, Cordray also worked as a music instructor.
