Texas City Commissioner Charged With Intoxication Manslaughter
Dee Ann Haney was charged after she was involved in a crash near the Galveston Causeway that killed two men.

GALVESTON, TX — A Texas City Commissioner is charged with intoxication manslaughter after she was involved in a traffic accident that claimed the lives of a 58-year old man, and his 33-year old son.

Accident investigators with the Galveston County Police Department said Dee Ann Haney, 54, who serves as commissioner-at-large for Texas City, was driving her pickup northbound on I-45, when investigators said she veered off the road, and sideswiped two men who’d stopped on the side of the freeway, KPRC reported.

Haney was taken to a local hospital for a blood draw to determine if she was legally intoxicated at the time of the accident, KTRK reported.
Haney has served on the Texas City Commission since 2004, and has represented the city on a number of boards and commissions including the Houston-Galveston Area Council, Galveston County Transit District Board, Galveston County Animal Advisory Services Committee,the Galveston County Mayors and Council-members' Association (Vice-President), and the Rotary Club of Texas City.

She is an occupational health and safety inspector at Texas A&M University-Galveston.
Police have not released the identities of the two men killed.
