Three Boxes of Human Ashes Wash Up Near Galveston

TIKI ISLAND, TX -- A man who discovered three wooden boxes containing human ashes, washed up on the beach near his home is working to find the families.

Joe Morgan has seen a lot of interesting things wash up from the bay since he moved there in 1975, but he was a bit shocked when he saw the three small wooden boxes wash alongside his dock on March 31.

On the top of each box was the simple message “Rest In Peace,” above the names of Felicia Davis, Iveria Caldwell and Heilana Victoria Hernandez.

Morgan fished the boxes out and said a little prayer for each, releasing the souls because he didn’t, “want them haunting my dock.”

Officials with the Tiki Island Police said the incident was typical of relatives who have a homecoming for their deceased loved ones to place them in the ocean.

However, it’s uncommon for three urns or boxes of creamated human remains to wash up in the same place at the same time.

Morgan is hopeful the families can be located and the remains can be returned to them.
