Trolley Makes A Comeback To Galveston Island
Four trolley buses hit the road in May, with three railed trolley cars coming to Galveston in 2018.

GALVESTON, TX -- The City of Galveston will be rolling on their new rubber-wheeled trolley buses, just in time for summer.
The four trolley buses, which will eventually be used in conjunction with rail trolley, will travel along Seawall Boulevard between Stewart Beach and Moody Gardens. (Sign up for Patch’s daily newsletter for your neighborhood.)
The trolley system is expected to begin operating in mid-May, and will offer rides along the Galveston seawall free throughout the summer, officials said.

Jaree Hefner, Galveston’s Public Information Officer, said the city is working to restore three railed trolley cars that were used decades earlier, but restoration is not expected to be completed until 2018.
Most who are regular visitors to Galveston know the traffic congestion along Seawall Boulevard can be unbearable.
Hefner said the hope is that visitors who come to Galveston will park their cars and use the trolley system to help alleviate the congestion.
The trolley buses will operate seven days a week, between 9 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.
