Molis, who was hit 11 times, was taken to an area hospital where he underwent surgery, and is expected to survive.
Investigators believe the shooting may have had something to do with Molis' uniform, which resembles the Galveston Police Department uniform, with the exception of the patches on the sleeves.
Investigators from the Galveston Police Department, Texas City Police, and Lamar Police Department, along with police from University of Texas Medical Branch used K-9s to search for search for the suspects, who police described as three black men.
The men are considered armed and dangerous.
Anyone with information about the shooting or the whereabouts of the three men is asked to call 911 or the Galveston police non-emergency number at 409-765-3702.
