• Flying 18-wheeler strap bracket pierces windshield on I-69 in Montgomery County, narrowly misses toddler (fox26houston.com) — Cleveland resident Don Scott and his 2-year-old son escaped injury Friday when a metal bracket from an 18-wheeler pierced their SUV's windshield on I-69 near Roman Forest. It struck an empty car seat his younger son had occupied minutes earlier. Investigators have not identified the truck and are seeking information or dashcam footage. 
• With one final term ahead, County Judge Jay Knight sets sights on county's future (bluebonnetnews.com) — With growth continuing around Cleveland, Liberty County Judge Jay Knight says a countywide drainage plan is about six months from completion. The study will help residents assess flood risks and guide future development. Knight, who says his next term will be his last, also wants a new county jail nearing completion before leaving office.
