It was a surprising defeat for many who saw Keough as an underdog battling uphill against an incumbent with hometown roots.

Now, those who supported Doyal in his hoopeful re-election bid will thrown their spooprt behind Keough when he takes on Jay Stittleburg in the November general election.

The winner will be sworn on on Jan. 1, 2019.

While some may still be shocked by Doyal's, they may have chosen to forget the issues that plagued the incumbent, such as the indicment leveled against Doyal and Pct. 2 Commissioner Charlie Riley for violations of the Texas Open Meetings act, and his battle with commissioners over the Texas 249 project that is currently in the early stages of construction near Spring Creek.

Those and other issues that plagued Doyals tenure as county judge were alive and well on Tuesday when voters went to the polls, and it showed in the result.
