Over 800 traffic stops on SH 361 since safety initiative began (caller.com subscription) — If you drive between Corpus Christi and Port Aransas, expect strict enforcement on SH 361, where DPS has made more than 800 traffic stops since a safety initiative began and the speed limit dropped to 50 mph on a key stretch. TxDOT is also taking public input by email to shape safety improvements and a town hall planned for Mustang Island this month. 
2. The Texas city that nearly ran out of water is changing how residents live forever (oregonlive.com) — Corpus Christi's long-running drought and water restrictions are reshaping everyday life, from brown lawns and shorter showers to new conservation habits across neighborhoods and businesses. With Stage 2 rules still in place and a major desalination project under debate, residents are relying on reclaimed water, rain barrels, and careful use at shelters and parks while the city works to delay a potential water emergency now pushed to 2028.
3. Coastal Bend Economic Development Is Taking Off (livability.com) — Major investments, high-paying jobs, and a booming Port of Corpus Christi are helping drive rapid economic growth across the Coastal Bend, with billions poured into energy, manufacturing, and logistics. Local leaders say business-friendly policies, naval aviation, and amenities like the Hooks and Texas State Aquarium are making Corpus Christi an increasingly attractive place to live and work.
4. CCPD: Charges upgraded after Premier High School senior dies from injuries sustained in crash (kiiitv.com) — A Corpus Christi teen has died from injuries suffered in an Aug. 30 rollover crash near Rodd Field Road, and the 19-year-old driver now faces an upgraded intoxication manslaughter charge. Police say he admitted to drinking and racing another car at high speed before the wreck. The victim's family has launched a fundraiser to help cover funeral expenses.
5. Trial date set nearly two years after Corpus Christi mother's killing (kiiitv.com) — An upcoming capital murder trial in Corpus Christi will examine the 2024 shooting death of 25-year-old mother Kiara Allani Smith, whose body was found in her apartment after neighbors reported gunfire. Defendant Devaughan Williams, who turned himself in to Nueces County authorities and remains jailed, faces multiple prior domestic-violence-related charges as the case moves toward a Sept. 14 trial date.
