Ending water releases from Lake Corpus Christi sees opposition (caller.com subscription) — Corpus Christi officials are asking state regulators to temporarily halt required freshwater releases from Lake Corpus Christi to Nueces Bay, arguing it's needed to protect the region's strained water supply. Environmental advocates counter that the city is sidestepping an established review process and warn higher bay salinity could harm shrimp and juvenile fish, pressing for fuller data and stakeholder input. 
2. Leandra Urrutia: Constellations (glasstire.com) — Corpus Christi art lovers can catch a new sculpture exhibition by local artist and Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi ceramics lead Leandra Urrutia at K Space Contemporary downtown. Her show "Constellations" brings together narrative, female-centered works from different stages of her career. The gallery is open Wednesday through Sunday, with an evening reception set for September 4.
3. Body recovered from Corpus Christi Bay: What we know now (mysanantonio.com) — Authorities have identified the man found in Corpus Christi Bay near South Shoreline Boulevard last week as 55-year-old Tyrone Smith, who was pulled from the water and later pronounced dead at a local hospital. Police say they do not suspect foul play in the downtown Corpus Christi incident. The story also notes other recent drownings in nearby Coastal Bend waters, underscoring ongoing water safety concerns.
4. Del Mar College journalism professor receives teaching excellence award (kiiitv.com) — Corpus Christi's Del Mar College is celebrating journalism professor Robert Muilenburg for earning the 2026 Dr. Aileen Creighton Award for Teaching Excellence. Muilenburg, a former Del Mar student and Army veteran, has guided Foghorn News staffers to hundreds of state and national honors while mentoring many local journalists who now work in area newsrooms.
