14-Year-Old Female Dies In Overnight Shooting

DALLAS, TX — A 14-year-old female was killed and a 16-year-old male was injured Monday night in a drive by shooting in the 1800 block of Ormond Drive.

Police were dispatched to Umphress and Buckner, where the victims were found, and investigators later determined the shooting had taken place more than one-quarter mile away on Ormond, police said in a statement.

Witnesses told police four Latino males drove up to the victim's vehicle and fired multiple shots, the statement reads. The witnesses fled the location and remain at large.

Two other people were in the victim's car. One was taken to police headquarters for questioning, and the other fled before officers arrived, police said.

Both injured victims were taken to Baylor Hospital, where the girl was pronounced dead. The male victim is in stable condition, police said.

The male's identity is withheld because he is a juvenile. The female was identified as Natalie Hernandez, a student at Dallas' W.W. Samuell High School, KXAS reported.

According to a report from the station, Dallas ISD will provide grief counselors at the school this week.

The investigation will be treated as a murder and three aggravated assaults, KXAS wrote.
