No Bond Ordered For Man Accused Of Deep Ellum Attack

A 36-year-old man was arrested Thursday in connection to videos that allegedly show him assaulting a woman in Deep Ellum early Thursday.

DALLAS, TX — A judge has ordered no bond for a man charged in the brutal beating of a woman in the Deep Ellum district of Dallas. Videos allegedly showing the man beating the woman for at least two minutes surfaced on Facebook Thursday.

Jarod Broussard, 36, was fired from an uptown Dallas nightclub hours before his arrest Thursday. But as the video continued to circulate, members of a Facebook group titled "Deep Ellum Community Watch" took to social media to demand attention.

Dallas police said in a statement Thursday evening that Broussard assaulted the woman, who he was dating, in the 2700 block of Canton Street around 1:50 a.m. Thursday.

Police echoed what was seen in the surveillance video, writing in the statement, "The suspect struck the victim multiple times on her head and face with his fists. The suspect then threw the victim to the ground before getting into his vehicle. The victim got into the vehicle with the suspect where he continued to assault her by placing both of his hands around the victim’s neck and strangling her for approximately 7 seconds."

Broussard was arrested on a warrant and booked into Lew Sterrett Jail on a charge of family assault of a house member, and impeding breath and circulation.

In a motion signed by Judge Gracie Lewis, Assistant District Attorney Marissa Hatchett cited Broussard's previous charges among the reasons for the no bond order, WFFA reported.

Broussard has previously been charged with assault family violence in 2006 that was later dismissed, a protective order issued against him in 2006, burglary of a habitation and assault family violence impede breath/circulation in 2010 that were also dismissed, according to the order.

"There is also evidence that the defendant owns and has access to firearms," the order said.

His employer, Theory Nightclub Uptown, posted on Facebook that he man was fired from the club.

"Theory has a zero tolerance policy when it comes to issues regarding violence," the post read.

The Facebook user who first shared the video did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The victim, whose name has been withheld, suffered a laceration to the back of her head, scrapes on her knees and a chipped tooth from the assault, police said.
