Buckner & Donors Celebrate Shining Hope Dallas Campaign

Dallas families gather at the Frontiers of Flight Museum to celebrate fundraising efforts for Buckner Family Hope Center at Bachman Lake.

On Tuesday evening, Dallas parents and children gathered at the Frontiers of Flight Museum to celebrate the Shining Hope Dallas campaign and fundraising efforts for development of the Buckner Family Hope Center at Bachman Lake. The evening was hosted by Buckner International to thank campaign donors.

Buckner created an experience for attendees to highlight how its Family Hope Centers impact the community they serve. Activities included writing notes of encouragement to accompany new shoes for children in need, problem solving with family coaches, making pinatas and taking a virtual reality tour through the Family Hope Center.

Buckner operates 26 similar Family Hope Centers across Texas and within six countries. Buckner Family Hope Centers equip children and strengthen families for life. They are child-centered, family-focused places where families go to find hope, support, and empowerment in their community to reach their fullest potential.

The 21,795-square-foot, two-story Buckner Family Hope Center at Bachman Lake will cost $10.5 million to build, which has been raised by the Shining Hope Dallas campaign. An additional $4 million is being raised through the campaign as an endowment.

The Buckner Family Hope Center at Bachman Lake is being built on approximately two acres at the corner of Lombardy Avenue and Geraldine Drive. It will sit strategically between multi-unit family living complexes and single-family homes in Bachman Lake, one of Dallas’ most economically challenged areas.

While the building does not yet exist, the Buckner Family Hope Center's programs and services are already underway in Bachman Lake, operating out of school classrooms, church offices, apartment living rooms and even street corners. Already in 2018, Buckner has served over 5,000 families in Bachman Lake; 79 people graduated from Buckner classes, 29 people secured new jobs and held them for six months, and 179 people are involved in Bible studies.

A ceremonial groundbreaking event for the Buckner Family Hope Center at Bachman Lake is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 27 at 10:30 a.m. at the future building site.
