Buckner Receives Donation of 250 Mattresses from The Bed Boss
KCBI FM's 'Summer Service' volunteers help sort and inventory the mattresses to ship to vulnerable children and families served by Buckner.
This past weekend, 250 mattresses arrived at Buckner International's Humanitarian Aid Center in Mesquite, Texas thanks to a donation from The Bed Boss, a popular mattress-in-a-bag online retailer headquartered in Chattanooga, Tenn.
The donation's timing was perfect, as more than 100 volunteers through KCBI FM’s “Summer of Service” were at the Humanitarian Aid Center ready to lend a hand. The volunteers consisted of KCBI staff, listeners and local churches.
“We were blessed to receive the large mattress donation from The Bed Boss at the same time KCBI helped fill our warehouse with strong and compassionate volunteers,” said Steve Watson, Buckner International’s director of aid and assistance. “The mattresses will provide relief and joy to vulnerable children and families served by Buckner.”

The Bed Boss donation of 3” sleep pad sizes include 80 twin, 55 twin XL, 55 full and 60 queen, which the KCBI volunteers helped to sort and inventory for distribution to those in need.
Watson estimates the majority of the mattresses will be used internationally in countries served by Buckner Family Hope Centers, such as Mexico, Honduras and Guatemala. The additional mattresses, which the Bed Boss created as an ideal option for people who are displaced or without adequate housing, will be utilized for Buckner International’s humanitarian aid relief efforts.

Last year, one of The Bed Boss’ previously donated mattresses made its way to Azucena Lopez, an 18-year-old girl served by the Buckner Family Hope Center in Xoxocotlan, Mexico, who had never slept in her own bed. To read about Lopez’s reaction, click here.
In addition to helping organize the mattress donation, many of the KCBI FM volunteers sorted shoes collected by Buckner Shoes for Orphan Souls, which will be distributed to vulnerable children in Texas and internationally.
