City of Dallas Kicking Off Its Annual Beat the Heat Program

Reliant and the City of Dallas are kicking off the 17th annual Beat the Heat program on Tuesday.

The city put out the details in a Monday press release. According to the release, the press conference will take place on Tuesday, June 9, from 11 a.m.-noon, at the West Dallas Multipurpose Center at 2828 Fish Trap Rd.

Reliant and the city will discuss how they plan to partner this summer to provide Dallas area seniors and vulnerable residents relief from the summer heat.

At the event will be Dallas City Council Member Laura Cadena, Reliant Community Manager Anna Delano, Dallas County Commissioner Elba Garcia, Dallas County Health & Human Services Assistant Director Mark Edwards, and Office of Housing & Community Empowerment Deputy Director Jessica Galleshaw.

The program will assist residents of South and West Dallas in staying cool and managing their electricity use during the summer by offering cooling centers, water, and free portable cooling devices to those in need.

Additionally, Reliant will announce it is donating $25,000 to fund 300 evaporator cooling units for distribution.

Reliant Beat the Heat centers and cooling devices will be at Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center and West Dallas Multipurpose Center. Residents can call the MLK, Jr. Community Center at 214-670-8418 or the West Dallas Multipurpose Center at 214-670-6341 to apply.
