The work will start next week and is expected to be completed in September.

The City of Dallas is going to start grouting work next week on an abandoned wastewater main adjacent to White Rock Trail and Garland Rd.

Dallas Water Utilities issued a press release about the construction on June 9.

According to the release, the construction work will include the grouting of approximately 2,800 feet of an abandoned 36-inch diameter wastewater main adjacent to Garland Rd. and White Rock Trail between E. Lawther Dr. and San Rafael Dr.

Earlier this year, the utility was alerted to a sinkhole next to the trail over the abandoned wastewater pipeline. It was immediately backfilled.

The area continues to be monitored until the pipeline can be grouted. The grouting of the abandoned pipeline is a long-term measure intended to stop future sinkholes in the area.

The contractor will mobilize next week and should finish the work by September. The proposed work, signage, and traffic control was planned and coordinated by Dallas Water Utilities, Park and Recreation, the Transportation and Public Works Department, and the Texas Department of Transportation.

During the construction period, the westbound lane of Garland Rd. between E. Lawther Dr. and San Rafael Dr. will be closed. The contractor will work Monday through Saturday between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. The westbound lane will remain open outside of construction working hours and on Sundays.

The White Rock Trail between E. Lawther Dr. and Winsted Dr. will be closed for the duration of the construction in the name of project efficiency and public safety.

Residents are advised to follow all construction signage. Do not move or pass construction barricades. View the detour maps here.
