Dallas Animal Services Dog Kennels Still Over Capacity

Adoptable dogs can be found on Dallas Animal Services' website.

Dallas Animal Services is in desperate need of community assistance as its dog kennels are at their highest levels in years.

The city put out a bulletin about the situation on Tuesday. According to the release, there were 674 dogs in 388 kennels on Sunday. The shelter is currently caring for 67 nursing puppies and their mothers.

Adopting or fostering a dog is a meaningful way for residents to immediately help keep dogs safe and prevent the spread of disease, which is possible when kennels are overfilled.

"Our team is doing everything we can to manage the number of dogs in our care, but we can't create space without the community," said Dallas Animal Services Assistant Director Victoria Chittam Bennett. "Every adoption or foster placement makes an immediate difference—not just for that dog, but for the next one who needs our help."

As of Wednesday evening, Dallas Animal Services' daily shelter stats tracker shows that it is at 153% (or 469 dogs in 307 kennels) of its total dog shelter capacity.
