Dallas Mavs & Buckner Provide 250 Thanksgiving Meals to Families

Dallas families served by Buckner International received Thanksgiving turkeys and food from Devin Harris, J.J. Barea and Wesley Matthews.

Dallas Mavericks players Devin Harris, J.J. Barea and Wesley Matthews distributed Thanksgiving meals to 250 Dallas-area families participating in Buckner International programs. Albertsons-Tom Thumb donated all the sides to complete the Thanksgiving meals, which were handed out on Thursday, Nov. 16, as part of an initiative through the NBA Cares Season of Giving.

Providing meals to the families Buckner serves has become an annual tradition for the Mavs, as it brings peace and joy to local families during the holiday. The meals give families the opportunity to cook and serve a wonderful Thanksgiving meal to their children they might not be able to purchase themselves.

The families receiving the meals are all participants with local Buckner Family Hope Centers in Wynnewood, Bachman Lake and at the Texas Rangers MLB Youth Academy at Mercy Street Sports Complex.

Buckner Family Hope Centers strengthen families in the community by providing programs such as family coaching, GED, ESL, computer literacy, job training, an after-school program, and summer programs for children.

This year, the Mavs took the giving one step further by graciously donating car seats to 20 families in need of car safety seats for their children.

“Other than the fact that Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, this continues to be one of my favorite events due to the amount of people I get to meet and the joy on their faces when we provide them with this special meal," said Devin Harris, who participated in his sixth turkey giveaway with Buckner. "This event continues to be such a great success, and I look forward to continuing the tradition.”

“We are extremely thankful to the Dallas Mavericks players, cheerleaders and staff, as well as Albertsons-Tom Thumb," said Buckner President and CEO Albert Reyes. "Every year they help us provide 250 families served by Buckner with a Thanksgiving meal, and they help us shine hope in their lives around the holidays.”
