Dallas murder suspect arrested in Oklahoma
Man charged in a 2019 murder was recaptured after vanishing before trial

Dallas, Texas - Following intensive investigative efforts, Dallas law enforcement authorities have announced the arrest of a suspect, involved in a capital murder case, who daringly removed his electronic tracking device and disappeared shortly before his trial. The suspect was found and apprehended in the state of Oklahoma.
In an official statement issued last Thursday, Dallas police confirmed the arrest of Tyrese Simmons, aged 23, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, after he went missing earlier this month. Plans to extradite him back to Texas are currently underway.
Simmons is facing charges of capital murder, tied to the tragic demise of 9-year-old Bradoniya Bennett, a casualty of a terrible shooting incident that occurred in August 2019. According to allegations, the incident arose from Simmons' dispute with a rival rapper, who lived in proximity to the child's residence in an East Dallas apartment complex.

The police report sketches a heated rivalry between Simmons and his competitor in the music industry, a dispute that exploded into a fatal burst of gunfire. Tragically, Bennett, who was merely sitting on her apartment sofa at the time, was fatally hit in the head during this violent incident.
"It is believed that the suspect mistakenly fired at the wrong apartment unit after running around the building to the back of the apartment complex," stated Simmons' arrest warrant.

Initially, Simmons was due to appear in court on June 5. However, credible sources alerted WFAA to Simmons' covert removal of his ankle monitor, which resulted in his disappearance.
Tulsa law enforcement, in a public announcement, revealed that Simmons was found on Thursday, June 22, hidden in a hotel room. A tense standoff followed between the fugitive and the police, with Simmons stubbornly refusing to leave his hideout, according to police documentation.
Simmons was eventually apprehended after officers deployed pepper balls to overcome his resistance. He is expected to be held in Tulsa County jail.
"Officers attempted to get Simmons to come out of a room at the hotel, but he refused," stated a Facebook post from the Tulsa Police. "After making commands and attempting to get Simmons out for several hours, Officers deployed pepper balls, and Tyrese Simmons was taken into custody."
This heartrending incident also involves another person, Davonte Benton, who was implicated in the 2019 shooting. Benton faced parallel capital murder charges and was sentenced to 45 years imprisonment in 2022, according to Dallas Metro News.
