Dallas Police Department Clears Suspicious Package in Downtown Area on Tuesday
The driver is in custody on charges related to obstructing the road.
The Dallas Police Department investigated and ultimately cleared a suspicious package inside a vehicle downtown on Tuesday.
The department revealed details about the incident in a series of social media posts. According to the department, the officers responded to a call about a suspicious package at the intersection of Lamar and Elm streets.
When the officers arrived on the scene, they observed a vehicle parked in the road with a suspicious package inside.

Drivers were warned to expect significant traffic delays in the downtown era and encouraged to use alternative routes.
The Dallas Police Explosive Ordinance Disposal Team responded to the scene to investigate the package. Ultimately, the car and package were cleared and no threat was found. The area was determined to be safe.

The driver is now in custody on charges related to obstructing the road. In Texas, obstructing a public roadway is generally considered a misdemeanor offense.
This isn't the first time a suspicious vehicle created a disturbance in the North Texas region.
In 2024, an Oklahoma man suffering from a mental health episode was caught with a van full of explosives and weapons by White Settlement police. Police learned that he had planned to attack a local church.
In that case, the Fort Worth Fire Department Bomb Squad were dispatched to neutralize the threat. The squad found that several of the devices were capable of destructing.
