Dallas Police Officer Arrested On Bribery, Gambling Charges

The officer was arrested Thursday on charges of bribery, misuse of official information and gambling promotion. This is a developing story.

DALLAS, TX — A Dallas police officer was arrested Thursday on charges of bribery, misuse of official information and gambling promotion following an investigation by the Dallas Police Department's Public Integrity Unit. The officer was identified as Senior Cpl. Edrick Smith, 33.

Smith has been with the department since May 2005, Dallas police say. He was assigned to the South Central Patrol Division before his arrest. He has been placed on administrative leave pending an ongoing criminal and administrative investigation.

Bribery is classified as a second degree felony, Misuse of official information is a third degree felony and gambling promotion is a class-A misdemeanor.

Jail records indicate Smith was booked into Dallas County Jail around 11:07 a.m. Thursday. His bail was set at $9,000 Thursday afternoon.
