Dallas Police Shoot, Kill Man While Executing Narcotics Search Warrant

A Dallas Police Department officer shot and killed a man while executing a narcotics search warrant on a residence in the 1000 block of Shaw Street in West Dallas on Friday morning.

DPD alerted the community to the officer-involved shooting at 10:39 a.m. on Friday. Preliminary information indicated that SWAT responded to an address to execute the warrant and encountered a suspect with a gun.

Dallas Police Chief Daniel Comeaux briefed media on the incident shortly after it happened. He said the department was executing the warrant in conjunction with a task force.

When officers arrived at the front door, they encountered the armed suspect who allegedly pointed his gun at one officer's head. That officer proceeded to shoot the suspect.

"This gun was pointed directly at the officer's head and the officer was able to shoot the suspect and keep everyone else safe behind him," Comeaux said. "As we always do, we will provide the body camera footage."

Comeaux said officers immediately attempted life-saving measures. The man was later pronounced dead at the scene. No officers were injured in the exchange and only one officer discharged a weapon.

Police have not released the man's name or any other identifying information. The body camera footage of the incident Comeaux promised is not yet on YouTube.

On Feb. 11, the department released the body camera footage of the officer-involved shooting on Feb 8 in the 5100 block of Lemmon Avenue. Police responded to an apartment and found a man in distress and armed with a box cutter. After a physical and verbal exchange, police shot the man who later died at a nearby hospital.
