Dallas Police Shed Light on Sunday Night Officer-Involved Shooting
It occurred in the 5100 block of Lemmon Avenue.

A man was shot and killed by Dallas police in the city's third officer-involved shooting of the year. Dallas Police Chief Daniel C. Comeaux briefed the media on Sunday night.
The OIS happened on Feb. 8 at 7:36 p.m. after the Dallas Police Department received a call about a male subject in a residence in the 5100 block of Lemmon Avenue.
In a media briefing, Comeaux said the subject had allegedly referenced wanting to harm himself with a box cutter.

"Officers knocked on the front door of the apartment, the suspect answered the door with a box cutter in his hand, and slammed the door in officers' faces," Comeaux said. "The subject could be heard saying through the door: 'Put away the tasers. I don't want to [expletive] stab myself. I want to get shot.'"
At the same time, Comeaux said officers could hear the suspect yell at someone inside the apartment, 'This is your fault.'

He continued, "A short time later, the suspect opened the front door and aggressively charged at officers while reaching for the officer's gun. Officers fired a shot at the suspect, striking the suspect in the upper torso."
The suspect was transported to a nearby hospital where he died. Comeaux did not provide any additional identifying information about the man.
Last week, the department released body camera footage of an officer-involved shooting on Woodhollow Drive. In that situation, an 18-year-old man was brandishing a firearm and locked in a bathroom with his grandmother when he exchanged gunfire with officers.
The first OIS of the year in Dallas occurred on Jan. 17 in the 1200 block of Presidio Avenue. In that case, police shot a man after receiving a tip about gunfire in the area.
