Dallas Ranks No. 37 Among Top Cities for Vegans, Vegetarians; Plano Ranks No. 49: Study
Research from personal finance website WalletHub found the 100 most vegan and vegetarian-friendly cities in the U.S. 6 are in DFW.

DALLAS, TX – Dallas ranks No. 37 among U.S. cities for vegetarians and vegans, according to a new study by personal finance website WalletHub. The website examined 15 indicators, including the percentage of restaurants that serve meatlesss options and the cost of groceries for vegetarians. Fort Worth, Plano, Garland, Irving and Arlington also placed among the top 100 cities in the study.
Dallas ranked 56th for affordability and 63rd for diversity, accessibility and quality of food. The city ranked 35th for "vegetarian lifestyle." Plano appeared on the list at 49th best city for vegans and vegetarians. The suburb was found to be the 15th most affordable city for vegetarian diets. The study compared the nation's 100 largest cities.
Overall, Dallas ranked third among Texas cities, preceded by Austin, 13, and Houston, 17. Dallas ranked highest among the North Texas cities of Plano, 49; Garland, 54; Irving, 59; Arlington, 75. Fort worth ranked 66th.

"People choose to adopt plant-based diets for various reasons, some ethical, others health-related. According to a 2016 Harris Poll commissioned by the Vegetarian Resource Group, about 8 million U.S. adults are vegan or vegetarian," according to the WalletHub study.
"But finding meatless options at restaurants and supermarkets can be a challenge, depending on where you find yourself hungry in America. And though some experts contend that foregoing animal protein could save the average person at least $750 per year, many find the lifestyle still tough on their wallets," WalletHub wrote.
