Dallas Resident Named National Scholar of Change
Angela Martilik Honored for Work on Suicide Prevention & Mental Health with Local Police Force

Dallas-resident, Angela Martilik, was recently named one of Walden University’s Scholars of Change. Walden students and alumni submitted inspiring videos for the video contest, and Martilik’s was one of several chosen that demonstrates how she is putting her knowledge to work for the greater good.
Inspired by a police psychology class she took while pursuing her PhD in Forensic Psychology at Walden, Martilik was driven to support police officers suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). She feels passionate about helping decrease the suicide rate among police officers and has been using her counseling experience to help connect them with needed mental health resources. In addition to receiving a $6,000 award as recognition for her winning Scholars of Change video, a $500 donation was given to her charity of choice— the Farmers Branch Police Offers Association.
