2. Fireworks Within City Limits
The new year usually involves celebrating with fireworks, but Jason Evans, a public information officer for the Dallas Fire and Rescue Department, reminded Dallasites in a video that using fireworks within city limits is illegal year-round.
Special inspectors have been assigned specifically to firework-related calls. Those caught breaking these laws are subject to a citation or a fine of up to $2,000.
3. Drunk Driving
Dallas police are conducting a no-refusal weekend during the New Year's holiday. No-refusal weekends mean that instead of field sobriety tests or breathalyzers, police will subject every person arrested for drinking and driving to a blood test. After these arrests, officers will seek search warrants for drivers who refuse blood testing.
Dallas police ask partygoers to drink responsibly, designate a sober driver or use rideshare services. DART is offering free rides to all New Year's celebrants after 6:00 p.m. on Dec. 31.
