Jerry Jones Could Face Deposition In Collusion Accusations

Cowboys' owner Jerry Jones and other NFL owners will be asked to turn over emails and cellphone records per Colin Kaepernick's grievance.

DALLAS, TX — Dallas Cowboys' owner Jerry Jones and Houston Texans' owner Bob McNair could be deposed as part of a grievance Colin Kaepernick's attorney filed against NFL owners. In the grievance filed under the collective bargaining agreement, Kaepernick claims team owners colluded against him signing an NFL contract. Owners will be asked to turn over cellphone records and emails, an NFL source tells Adam Schefter of ESPN.

All 32 NFL owners were accused of collusion in the grievance, but only a select few will be deposed. Others among those to be deposed are the Seattle Seahawks' Paul Allen and the San Francisco 49ers Jed York. Owners chosen for depositions were picked based on their public statements about anthem protests or Kaepernick himself, ABC News reported.

Kaepernick has not been with an NFL team since leaving the 49ers in March. His attorney, Mark Geragos, announced in a statement on Twitter that the grievance was filed "only after pursuing every possible avenue with all NFL teams and their executives."

In the statement, Kaepernick by way of Geragos, said athletes "should not be denied employment based on partisan political provocation by the Executive Branch of our government. Such a precedent threatens all patriotic Americans and harkens back to our darkest days as a nation."
