Locals Mourn Slain Richardson Police Officer

From community members to area schools, North Texans gave pause Thursday to honor the officer's end of watch.

Children and adults across North Texas stopped for a moment Thursday to pay respects to the 14-year veteran of the Richardson Police Department slain Wednesday night in the line of duty. Be they flower arrangements or shiny blue ribbons tied to a tree, adornments displayed in memory of the tenured officer, husband and father did not go unnoticed.

Officer David Sherrard lived in Wylie, where his daughters attend school. Wylie ISD asked students to wear blue on Monday in support of his family. School officials also announced they will work with Richardson Police to support the family.

Other schools across the area echoed the sentiments of Wylie ISD. Meanwhile, several government agencies in the area posted memorials for Sherrard on social media pages, including a tribute from Greg Abbott.
