Man On PCP Shoots, Kills One: Police
The suspect told police he and the victim had used drugs together earlier in the day, according to police documents.

DALLAS, TX — A man accused of shooting and killing another man in the 3550 block of E. Overton Road in Dallas on Monday told police he and the victim had smoked PCP together just before the shooting.
Police first responded to the shooting call around 4:14 p.m. When responders arrived, they found 39-year-old Stanley Coleman dead inside the apartment. According to a release from Dallas police, Coleman was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.
An investigation led police to suspect that 41-year-old Monnie Howard was responsible for the shooting. According to the release, he was arrested on unrelated charges and taken to Dallas Police Department.

According to a probable cause affidavit for Howard's arrest warrant, a witness was in the parking lot of apartment building when he heard shots being fired. The witness told police he went to Coleman's apartment and saw Howard holding a gun.

The affidavit states Howard then pointed the gun at the witness and said that Coleman had died. The witness later identified Howard from a photo lineup.

Howard was arrested then and questioned by police. According to the document, Howard told a detective that he and Coleman had smoked marijuana and PCP together earlier in the day. He then told police Coleman pointed a .357 caliber gun at him and pulled the trigger.

The gun malfunctioned and Howard was not shot, the document states. Howard then told police he took the gun from Coleman and fired multiple shots at him.
Howard told police he was in fear for his life, the report states.
Howard was booked into Dallas County Jail and faces a charge of murder. He is held on a $100,000 bail amount.
Another gun was recovered at the scene.
