McDonald's Worker Refuses To Give Texas Man Sweet And Sour Sauce. So He Finds A 'Petty' Workaround

'Why is she gatekeeping condiments?'

A man and his daughter ordered a couple of cheeseburgers at a McDonald’s near Dallas, Texas, and were denied a sweet and sour sauce packet to go with them. Here’s why and how they got around the policy.

TikTok creator Colorado (@coloradoromero6) posted a video about his sweet and sour hack over the weekend. “I’m at McDonald’s with my daughter,” he says to start the video. Said daughter briefly interjects to say “burger.”

He continues, “And the lady at the counter wouldn’t give us sweet and sour without buying chicken. I said, ‘Well, I bought a burger.’ So, we’re gonna order just sweet and sour on the app, because it’s free. See if she gives me a hard time.”

“People be doing too much for a job that can care less about them,” wrote one person.

“Defending a billion dollar corporation over $.10 of sauce,” said a second person.

“Why is she gatekeeping condiments?” asked a third viewer.

Another person said, “I once left a review that said ‘I hope the employees are getting fat bonuses this year for the amount of times they didn’t give me sauces.’ Every time I got from that restaurant after that time, I got extra sauces. Sometimes you have to remind these people it is not benefitting them.”

Someone else said, “I love to dip my fries in their sweet and sour sauce.”

Colorado replied, “The only way.”

The McDonald’s Sweet And Sour Packet Policy

McDonald’s is a franchise model, so prices and policies vary slightly by ownership group. That means a sweet and sour sauce packet can go anywhere from 25 cents to $1.

Colorado also posted a screenshot of the order, which took place at a McDonald’s in Gun Barrel City, which is near Dallas, in Henderson County. The screenshot shows the sauce is free at that location.

Generally, Chicken McNugget and McCrispy meals come with at least one free sauce.

A McDonald’s employee posted a Reddit thread to r/McDonalds six months ago asking customers how they feel about the sauce charge. “At our store, we give you the sauce that you ordered or comes with your nuggets, and we can only give you one extra before we have to charge $.35,” the person wrote. “And if you get no sauce with your meal, we can only give you one and if you want more we charge the same. People get mad at me a lot in the drive thru even though I have to do it or I risk being written up.”

Several people said what annoys them the most is not getting a sauce at all, in particular ones they paid the extra surcharge to procure. “What bothers me is that they ask what kind of sauce I want for the nuggets and then don’t even include it in the bag,” one person said. “When they actually do include it, it’s the wrong kind.”

Apparently, the condiment app loophole is widely known on the internet. The app does give you the option to add sauce packets to your cart for free and check out.
