Protesters Arrested At Energy Transfer Partners Meeting

Energy Transfer Partners is currently building a pipeline from Nederland, Texas, to Lake Charles, Louisiana.

DALLAS, TX — Environmental protesters were arrested Thursday for attempting to enter a shareholder meeting for Energy Transfer Partners (ETP), a natural gas and propane company building a 30-inch Bayou Bridge Pipeline from Nederland, Texas, to Lake Charles, Louisiana. ETP is also the company behind the controversial Dakota Access Pipeline. Lee Daugherty, who was present at the protests at the Preston Center, believes the company's "reckless behavior towards the environment for profit and disregard for native lands shall be confronted at all times."

"With the recent UN climate change report, it's past time for people to stand up and stop corporations like ETP and the people behind them like Kelsey Warren [who is chairman and chief executive officer of Energy Transfer Partners]," Daugherty told Patch. "We got to the doors of the meeting inside and disrupted outside the door. We eventually were pushed out to the streets, several arrests happened after that."

Prostesters chanted things like "People over pipelines," "Kelsey come out," and "Water is life," Daugherty added.

The Bayou Bridge Pipeline will be capable of transporting up to 480,000 barrels per day of light and heavy crude oil from different sources to the St. James crude oil hub, home to refineries located in the Gulf Coast region, when it is completed, ETP stated online.
