This year is the 18th anniversary of 9/11 and I can still remember waking up that morning and hearing about the dreadful events that took place. My family and I lived in California at the time and as I was getting ready for school, my parents came and told me what had happened. I could see fear in their eyes and now I understand that this distress was because they knew that our world would never be the same again.
As I watched the news I learned that those who did this terrorist attack were so called Muslims; I was very confused. This was not the Islam that I grew up with. These were not the teachings that I was taught. This was far from the way my family lived.
As a Muslim I was always taught to love everyone. The Holy Qur’an states “Seek not to create disorder in the earth. Verily, God loves not those who seek to create disorder” (28:78). How can this religion be used as an excuse for someone to claim the lives of so many innocent people?

Every year the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, to which I belong, holds a “Muslims for Life” blood drive throughout the nation. The goal is to collect blood to honor the innocent lives lost on 9/11.
This is the Islam I know, one filled with brotherhood and respect for one another. The religion of these terrorist groups is not Islam; it is an ideology built on ignorance and hatred.
