Standoff Ends With One In Custody; Officer, Civilian Dead

The suspect in Wednesday's deadly shooting of a police officer was taken into custody around midnight, sources report.

RICHARDSON, TX — One civilian and one Richardson police officer have died after an hours-long standoff with SWAT officers at Breckinridge Point Apartments in the 4200 block of East Renner Road Wednesday. The suspect was taken into police custody around midnight.

It's unknown at this time if the suspect was injured. According to various reporters on the scene, the suspect could be heard repeatedly screaming "I'm sorry" as he was hauled by police into a waiting ambulance.

Sources report the 27-year-old police officer, who remains unidentified, was shot in the neck. Another deceased person was also found at the scene of the shooting. That victim has not been identified at this time, but a crime scene investigation is underway, WFAA reported.

The suspected gunman was at large for more than an hour. Richardson Police Department public information officer Kevin Perlich told reporters at KXAS around 9:30 that the suspect was located in an apartment.

Reporters on scene said volleys of what seemed to be gunshots were heard periodically echoing through the complex throughout the evening.

Renner Road was closed in the area of the shooting incident.
