State Grant Will Pay for Free Spay/Neuter Services in North Texas

The Humane Society of North Texas won a state grant that it will use to provide free spay and neuter services for low-income families.

The shelter posted about the award to social media on Thursday. According to the post, the state funding will help remove barriers to essential care for dogs and cats.

According to the HSNT, spaying or neutering your pet helps prevent certain cancers, behavioral issues, and, of course, unwanted puppies and kittens.

North Texas residents regardless of residency or income can take advantage of the services at a reasonable cost.

Dogs generally range from $80-$100, with an additional $20 fee applied to flat-faced breeds. Cats range from $60-$70. In April, HSNT started charging a $30 non-refundable deposit for all surgeries that is applied to the total service cost.

And now, thanks to the grant, HSNT can offer free spay/neuter services to its shelter partners and low-income families.

Additionally, the funding will allow the humane society to assist its shelter partners without veterinary access. That will ensure more adoptable pets are altered and ready to be placed in forever homes. The program does not include rescues.
