Dallas, Texas - As we find ourselves in the summer of 2023, the warm climate beckons many North Texans towards water-based recreational activities.

Amid the summer excitement, residents are expected to flock to local water parks, public and private swimming pools, and the charming lakes scattered across the region.

However, it is crucial not to lose sight of safety precautions amidst the enjoyable pursuits of the summer season.

Last year, the Department of Family and Protective Services reported alarming figures, indicating that 76 children in Texas succumbed to accidental drowning. Included in these tragic instances was an incident involving something as seemingly harmless as a bucket. This stark reminder serves not to spread fear but to underscore the importance of vigilance when participating in water-related activities.

Regrettably, this year has already seen a continuation of such tragedies, with 29 reported cases of child drownings. These unfortunate incidents have occurred across various parts of the state, including Collin County, Tarrant County, and Ellis County.

To prevent such unfortunate occurrences, adherence to water safety protocols is of utmost importance. Swimming lessons, for example, offer more than just teaching stroke techniques and form. They also provide critical knowledge about proper swimwear and essential self-rescue skills in case of an unforeseen plunge.

Indeed, while we cherish the joy and recreational activities brought about by the summer, our commitment to safeguarding our loved ones and ourselves must remain paramount. By taking the right precautions and understanding water safety, we can fully enjoy the season without the looming threat of avoidable accidents. After all, summer is a time for fun and relaxation, not a season of preventable tragedies.
