Texas Winter Weather: More Than 1,000 Flights Canceled In DFW

Dallas-Forth Worth International Airport has reopened one runway but still expects intermediate stoppages because of weather conditions.

DALLAS, TX — More than 1,000 flights to and from the Dallas-Forth Worth metroplex already have been canceled Thursday because of issues created by Winter Storm Landon, according to FlightAware.

Dallas-Fort Worth International has canceled 563 departures and 504 destination flights, the most in the country as of 9:26 a.m. Thursday, and was closed for most of Thursday morning, according to the flight tracking website.

The airport has reopened one of its runways as of 10:42 a.m. but expects intermediate stoppages throughout the day to treat snow and ice accumulation, an airport spokesperson told Patch in an email. The representative urges customers to contact their airlines for flight updates.

Crews are working to remove ice and snow from the runways as well roads, bridges and overpasses, the airport said in a statement Thursday morning.

Dallas Love Field has canceled 355 total flights to and from the airport Thursday, while Austin Bergstrom International has 401 canceled flights.

Bush Intercontinental in Houston has 62 canceled arrivals, many from Dallas and Austin, and 48 canceled departures.

The cancellations come as a Winter Storm Landon passes through Texas early Thursday and into the evening.
