In her work, Gao traces monologues and conversations, the remembered and the forgotten, the real and the reimagined. She asks, "Are homes meant to be temporary? What happens to the traces we leave behind in the space we once inhabited and the land we have passed through?"

These questions surface as Gao moves between homes, cities, and countries. The exhibition features works made in Denton; Fayetteville, Ark.; and Roanoke, Va. between 2023 and 2026.
