🌱 Two New High-Rises In The Future + DPD Seek Help In 3 Homicides
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Dallas.

Hey, everybody! It's me, Nicole Fallon-Peek, your host of the Patch newsletter. Let's get this day started off right, with a quick review of everything you need to know about what's going on in town.
But first, today's weather:
Partly sunny and hot. High: 105 Low: 79.
Here are the top three stories in Dallas today:
- Pending approval from the Dallas City Council, The Hill shopping center in Vickery Meadow may soon see the development of new apartments under a mixed-use zoning proposal. The property's owners have applied for rezoning, which would allow for the construction of up to 1,200 multifamily units at market rates or up to 1,740 units if mixed-income housing is provided. The proposed development's proximity to the Dallas Area Rapid Transit's Walnut Hill Station aligns with the city's land use plan to develop a multimodal transportation network and maximize opportunities around DART stations. The City Plan Commission will consider the proposal during its Jul. 20 meeting, and city staff has recommended approval, citing its compatibility with the surrounding area and immediate access to transportation and amenities. - Woods Capital is planning to construct two high-rise buildings in downtown Dallas, including a 20-story residential tower and a similarly sized office building, with each structure estimated to cost $70 million. The residential tower, named The English, will sit across from The Ivy, the office tower, on McKinney Avenue off Central Expressway. The development is expected to be completed by 2026 and is part of the growing trend of high-rise construction in the area. Additionally, Woods Capital previously acquired the 60-story Comerica Bank Tower and intends to convert much of its office space into hotel and residential units. (connect cre)
- The Dallas Police Department is currently investigating three unsolved homicides in Southwest Dallas. The victims, Kimberly Robinson, 60, Cherish Gibson, 25, and an unidentified adult female, were found on separate dates and locations. While it's unclear if the deaths are connected, two of the victims are believed to have possible ties to prostitution. The investigations are ongoing, and anyone with information is urged to contact Dallas Police Detectives David Grubbs or Christopher Walton. (The DPD Beat)
