Undocumented Immigrant In ICE Custody After House Explosion

The house exploded after a 35-year-old man's truck crashed into the home and severed a gas line, police say.

HURST, TX — Police say a man whose truck crashed into a Hurst house, causing an explosion, is now in U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody.

Alejandro Enriquez-Castro, 35, was driving in Hurst Saturday when his white Ford Explorer veered off the roadway and into a house with a man, his wife and the couple's adult son inside. The crash severed a gas line in the house and caused a leak.

As police were walking up to the house to talk with Castro, the house exploded, leaving two officers with minor injuries. The explosion was so strong, police said in a statement, that the roof lifted from the house and the back wall crumbled.

After the explosion, screams were heard in the house. Officers went into the house and found the family in the wreckage with the woman severely injured and buried in rubble.

The family was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital. Firefighters meanwhile arrived and began battling the blaze.

Castro was arrested at the scene on a misdemeanor charge of No Drivers License. He was taken to Hurst Jail in lieu of a $180 bail, but further investigation proved the driver had several unconfirmed alias names.

Castro was placed on an immigration detainer and transferred Monday to ICE custody.

The man and woman remain in the hospital and have serious burns, police say. The son was released from the hospital with less serious injuries.

The two officers injured, Officer Travis Hiser and Corporal Ryan Tooker, were both treated for injuries and released.

Police are still investigating the crash that caused the explosion.
